Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him.  In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved.

We are all adopted children of God through Jesus Christ, who made us his brothers and sisters through his life, passion, death, and resurrection. He broke his body and poured out his blood for us in order to secure us our adoption... to make us co-heirs to the Kingdom of God. He shows us how to be good and faithful children to our Heavenly Father. He shared his own Holy Mother with us while on the cross and asked us to take her into our homes and hearts. He gave us his Holy Spirit to be our advocate and constant guide. He has offered his love, his mercy, his saving and sanctifying grace to fill us with good things so we might grow in favor with God and give praise and glory to Him for all He has done for us.

How are we living out our calling to be co-heirs to the kingdom of God? What can we do to become more faithful children of our Lord? Do we give thanks for all the blessings God has given us, especially the Holy Spirit and our Holy Queen, Mary?

O Lord, bless us in Christ with every spiritual blessing.

Amen.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous deeds. Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done wondrous deeds; His right hand has won victory for him, his holy arm.

On this Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blesses Virgin Mary, it is only right that we sing to the Lord a new song and proclaim the marvelous deeds God has done for us. These are words that echo those Mary spoke to Elizabeth in the Magnificat where she proclaims the greatness of the Lord, rejoices in the Savior, and recognizes the great things God has done for her. In a similar way, we are also called to follow in Mary’s footsteps by proclaiming God’s greatness, rejoicing in His saving grace, and giving thanks for all He has done for us. If we do these things and live our lives in accordance with the Scriptures and the teachings of the Church, then we shall be a part of God’s victory and share in His Triumph over sin and death.

Do we sing God’s praises? In what ways can we rejoice in God, our Savior? How can we express the depths of our thanksgiving for all God has done for us?

O Lord, we praise and thank you for all the marvelous deeds you have done for us.

Amen.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said, “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”

Mary is full of grace and is always willing to intercede with God when we are in need of graces in our own lives. She has the unique experience of being born without original sin, but what we often forget is that just like Adam and Eve who were created in a state of original justice, she too would have had temptations. The difference between Mary and Adam and Eve is she chose to obey God and make her fiat to Him without reservation. She might not have understood what it meant to become Jesus’ mother, especially the trials and tribulations of his life, passion, and death. However, we can be confident she would have accepted them and the sorrows his suffering caused her, knowing the glory and salvation that would flow from Christ’s sacrifice would be worth the cost. Mary is also our spiritual mother and when she sees us suffering and struggling in our lives she will not abandon us. She will come to our aid if we call out for her intercession. So let us accept Jesus’ gift of his mother to all his disciples and allow her to comfort and protect us in our times of need and fill us with the graces we need to overcome all our trials.

Are we willing to make our lives a living “Yes!” to God just as Mary did? Do we seek her out in pray to help intercede for us in our times of need? Do we accept her as our graceful mother, who is always at our side?

O Lord, thank you for the gift of your graceful mother.

Amen.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.

What an amazing gift God gave to Mary and the whole human race! She is the New Eve and Mother of the New Adam. She is a model of what it means to say Yes to the Will of God. We can learn a lot from Mary’s life of humble service to her God, her son, and his disciples. We can take solace in the knowledge that she is our Spiritual Mother and our Gateway to Heaven.

How often do we turn to Mary in our times of need? Do we model our lives after her, who so perfectly modeled her most admirable life on the Living Gospel? When do we spend quality time with our Heavenly Mother as we would our own earthly mothers?

O Lord, you have given us a perfect mother and model in Mary. Grant us the fullness of grace we need to bear you into the world as your Most Holy Mother did before us.

Amen.
